Well as they say, things have a way of working out for the best, and that was definitely true for the entrance of Peyton Leigh Finck to the world. You see all the time on the TV of how a baby was born in the car on the way to the hospital or while they were stuck in traffic and you say how can that happen, well Brooke and I almost found out. Before we get to story of how Peyton was born we wanted to share the significance of her middle name. Her middle name is shared by loved ones on both sides of our family. Peyton's great grand dad who passed away in November was named Lee Jordan, her Pepaw Bixie Boy's middle name is Lee and her Aunt KK's middle name is Leigh. She will surely be honored to have this name throughout her life.
Brooke went into labor around 8 on Thursday (5/26) evening and her contractions became pretty regular at 5 minutes apart at about 10:00. We called the doctor and they told us to wait an hour and then come to the hospital. Since this was about a month before Peyton's due date we were definitely not ready to head to the hospital. We had not packed, we had not installed the car seat for the new baby, and we did not have anyone to take care of Jordan while we went. Thankfully, Bebop and Pop Pop live near by and Pop Pop came over for a sleep over while Jordan slept and Bebob, Brooke, and I went to hospital around 11:30. They checked Brooke into triage at about 12:00 and checked and she was only 1.5 cm dilated so they asked us to walk around for an hour and then checked her again and she had not progressed so they told us to go home. The nurse even said that she thought it was false labor and that we would be back in about a week or even next month. Well, needless to say she was really, really, really wrong. We were released at 3:00 AM and headed home.
Brooke continued to labor and at about 6:00 her contractions were 3-4 minutes apart still so she sent Pop Pop home to get a shower and then all heck broke loose. Her contractions immediately went to 1-2 minutes and we called Bebop to hurry over and watch Jordan. We were waiting in the drive way when she got there at 7:15 and Brooke and I jumped in the car to drive 15 miles to the hospital. 33 minutes later Peyton Leigh joined the world. The litany of things that went right for us on that drive that should normally take 20-25 minutes tell us that someone was watching out for us. We made every light, the traffic that is normally stopped was moving and we were able to go 60 mph the whole way, and when Brooke's water broke around the Hyde Park exits we were only 5 minutes from the hospital. When we got off at Taft we made every light to the hospital and I was driving about 60 down Auborn Ave (speed limit 25 mph). We pulled into the parking lot and up to the valet parkers and Brooke could not even get out of the car, the valet ran inside and got a police office who brought a wheel chair and we got Brooke up to Labor and Delivery skipping every floor on the elevator b/c the cop knew we were close.
We ran into our doctor in the lobby at 7:35 and Brooke said I have to start pushing now, she ran and got dressed and 13 minutes later Peyton came out after 2 pushes. Brooke had to do the birth all natural (so she check that off her list of things to do in life) b/c Peyton was so close to coming out they could not do an epidural. I quickly cut the cord and they took her away b/c she was having trouble breathing b/c she was so early. At this point and time we still had not called our parents to tell them how close Brooke was. After a short time in the Special Care nursery Peyton was allowed to come back to our room and she has not left since.
She is a very strong, and very little girl who is eating like a horse and doing better each day. They let her come home on Sunday (which is a miracle given how early she was) and her lungs and digestive system are both working great (good thing for Pampers).
As we think back on how things could have gone (Peyton being born on the shoulder of I71 a month early) we are so thankful to all our family and the big guy in the sky looking out for us to help us delivery a happy, healthy, strong, and beautiful baby girl.
We have lots of pictures, but these are some of our favorites.
Love,
Brooke, Jason, Jordan, Peyton, and Maggie

Congrats on your newest addition! I just wanted to say hello, I'm the grand-daughter of Carol Altenburn (Lee Jordan's youngest sister), so that makes us some sort of cousin's I guess! I started reading this blog a few posts ago when my mom forwarded me the link (I think Aunt Treva gave it to her?). Anyway, my name is Jordan Leigh so of course I love your daughters' names :) The name has done well for me and I enjoy being linked to such a great family! Again, congrats!
Congratulations Fincks! So glad everything turned out great and that everyone is healthy. :)
